One More Little Floof

Well, I Did It Again
I got another dog.
I know, I know, I know.
Seven.
SEVEN.
It’s a lot.
In my defense, Ken has been wanting a solid black dachshund for a long time. Honestly, before we got Wilbur and Rory, that had been our intention.
Then Wilbur was born with a deformed tail, we fell completely in love with him, and the original plan went right out the window.
So when we were helping a friend find a new dog, we accidentally, and yes, I do mean accidentally, stumbled across an adorable solid black smooth coat dachshund.
Solid black dachshunds aren’t super common, so immediately we were like, “OMG. It’s our dream puppy.”

We already knew what we would name him.
But then we took a step back.
It wasn’t the best timing. Did we really need a seventh dog?
No.
Surely this adorable little puppy was going to find a home.
So we walked away.
Weeks went by.
Then, completely on a whim, I looked him up again.
He was still available.
I tried talking myself out of it. I really did. I promise.
But I kept thinking about Ken.
Right now, all of our dogs are much more attached to me than they are to him, mostly because I’m home with them and I’m their primary parent.
When Patrick passed away, Ken lost his best friend and his shadow.
Patrick was his dog.
And since losing him, Ken hasn’t really had another dog fill that role.
I kept thinking about how much I wanted Ken to have that again. Someone who chose him. Someone who followed him around. Someone who wanted to be wherever he was.
So I finally reached out to the breeder.
And, of course, the puppy already had a potential home.
They were just trying to work out transportation.
So that was that.
I resigned myself to the fact that there would be no new baby.
And then, like magic, or possibly a little gift from puppy heaven, the buyer fell through.
Suddenly we had put down a deposit.
We were picking him up the next day.
And I had a to do list approximately six miles long.
Preparing for a New Puppy

The first stop was PetSmart.
Then came the Amazon orders.
We needed washable puppy pads to line the bassinets and playpens we use for puppies.
We needed a Snuggle Puppy for sleep time.
At 13 weeks old, he was already well into the teething stage, so plenty of teething toys were an absolute must.
He needed a collar.
A harness.
And, of course, his own backpack, just like his siblings have.
We picked up a bag of Royal Canin Small Puppy food so we could transition him from the food he had been eating with his breeder.
And obviously, because apparently I am incapable of shopping for one dog without shopping for all of them, the other babies got presents too.
One More Call
Next came the vet appointment.
That phone call started approximately like this:
“Yes, I did it again. We got a seventh.”
At this point, I’m pretty sure nobody at our vet’s office is surprised by anything I say anymore.
And then, somehow, everything was ready.
The supplies were bought.
The house was prepared.
The appointment was scheduled.
And before I knew it, we were in the car on our way to pick up our newest baby.

So everyone, the time has come.
Meet the newest member of the House of Mini Floofs.
He is sweet.
He is calm.
He is unbelievably adorable.
And somehow, despite all of my very reasonable attempts to talk myself out of getting another dog, he is exactly where he is supposed to be.
Meet Anubis Soren

Our seventh baby.
Our little solid black dachshund.
And hopefully, someday, Ken’s new shadow.
