Welcome to House of Mini Floofs: A New Chapter
If you’re new here, welcome! And if you’ve been following along for a while, welcome back.
House of Mini Floofs has been a dream of mine for a long time. The original goal was simple: document life with our growing pack of dachshunds from the very beginning. I wanted a place where I could share their personalities, milestones, adventures, and all of the little moments that make living with dogs so special.
Life, however, had other plans.
Over the last two years, our family experienced more loss than we ever expected. We said goodbye to three beloved dogs, and as anyone who has loved a pet knows, they leave a space that can never truly be filled. During that time, my focus shifted away from creating content and toward simply loving the dogs we had, grieving the ones we lost, and taking care of my family.
Sometimes the best thing you can do is step away for a while.
Thankfully, life has slowly found a new rhythm. While we’ll always carry those dogs with us, our home is once again filled with laughter, zoomies, toy explosions, puppy antics, and plenty of dachshund attitude.
Today, we have six wonderful dachshunds, and honestly, we couldn’t be happier.
So…welcome back to House of Mini Floofs.
What is House of Mini Floofs?
Around here, we lovingly call our dachshunds “the Floofs.” They’re the heart of our home, the center of most of our adventures, and the inspiration behind this entire website.
This blog is first and foremost about them.
You’ll find stories from our everyday lives, product reviews from items we’ve actually used, senior dog care, puppy adventures, veterinary visits, outings, enrichment ideas, and honest conversations about what life with six dachshunds really looks like.
But House of Mini Floofs is also about the people behind the dogs.
I’ll be sharing our home projects, vacations (Alaska, here I come!), organization ideas, favorite finds, and whatever else I’m excited about at the moment. If it’s bringing joy to our lives, there’s a good chance it’ll make an appearance here.
What You Can Expect
My goal isn’t to create a picture-perfect version of life.
I want this to be an honest place.
Some days everything goes according to plan.
Other days someone has an accident on the floor five minutes after coming inside. Someone refuses to go potty because it’s raining. Someone decides that rage-pooping is the appropriate response to being mildly inconvenienced. (Looking at you, Thor.)
That’s real life with dogs.
I love spreading positivity, and I truly believe there’s something to celebrate every day, even if it’s something incredibly small. Around here, we try to leave each day just a little better than the one before.
That doesn’t mean pretending everything is perfect.
It means choosing joy anyway.
A Quick Note
I’m not a veterinarian, dog trainer, or animal behaviorist.
Everything I share comes from our own experiences as a family living with six dachshunds. I’ll always be honest about what’s worked for us, what hasn’t, and what we’ve learned along the way, but every dog is different.
If something here helps you or your own pets, that’s the greatest compliment I could ask for.
Meet the Floofs
I’d love to tell you this is where I’d put a perfect family portrait of all six dachshunds.
Reality is…someone is looking the wrong direction, someone is trying to escape, someone is barking, someone has decided they’re done with this whole “photo shoot” thing, and someone has probably wandered off in search of a snack.
So instead, let me introduce them one at a time.
Khaleesi
At 14 years old, Khaleesi is our queen.
She has several complex medical conditions, but don’t let that fool you—she’s still wonderfully sassy, perfectly content to nap the day away, and remarkably skilled at informing everyone when it’s time for breakfast. She’s earned every bit of her royal attitude.
Coco
Coco is the resident mom.
She gave birth to three members of our pack and somehow manages to be equal parts playful and affectionate. She loves toys almost as much as she loves giving kisses and demanding cuddles.
Hera
Hera is technically the half-sister, but she’s convinced she’s the boss of everyone in the house—and honestly, she usually is.
She communicates almost entirely through dramatic little grumbles, and somehow we all understand exactly what she means.
Thor
Thor is our tiny princess with an enormous personality.
She believes she’s the most important individual in any room, enjoys being groomed by everyone else, proudly wears sparkly bow ties, and occasionally expresses her displeasure through what we’ve lovingly named “rage pooping.”
Wilbur
Wilbur is chaos wrapped in a dachshund body.
He’s endlessly curious, constantly inventing new games, and seems to find genuine excitement in absolutely everything life has to offer. If mischief had a mascot, it would probably be Wilbur.
Rory
Rory is our soft-hearted sweetheart.
He’s like cotton candy—gentle, sweet, and a little delicate. He experiences every emotion at full volume, whether it’s overwhelming happiness or uncertainty, and he’s unapologetically a mama’s boy.
Together, they’re loud, messy, hilarious, occasionally dramatic, and completely perfect.
